Shopian, Aug 21: Tension has escalated in the Takibal Reban area of Zainapora in south Kashmir’s Shopian district following the mysterious death of a local woman, with her family members alleging that she was murdered by her in-laws.

The deceased has been identified as Urfi Jan, wife of Shawket Ahmad Lone, a resident of Takibal Reban. While initial reports claimed that she died due to a heart attack, her parents and relatives have strongly refuted the claim, alleging foul play and demanding a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.

Soon after the incident, the body was shifted to District Hospital Shopian for medico-legal formalities, including a post-mortem examination, to ascertain the actual cause of death.A senior police official confirmed that cognizance of the matter has been taken and legal proceedings have been initiated.

“The exact cause of death will be known only after the post-mortem report. If anything suspicious comes to light, we will investigate thoroughly, and strict action will be taken against anyone found guilty,” the official said.

The incident has triggered widespread concern and shock in the locality.
