Srinagar: The cold wave continues to tighten its grip on Kashmir’s summer capital, with temperatures in Srinagar slipping to zero degrees Celsius. As the chill deepens, residents are seen gathering around traditional kangris and open fires to keep themselves warm.
The sharp drop in temperature has added a wintry charm to the city, drawing people outdoors to enjoy the crisp cold weather despite the biting chill.
Markets and streets witnessed a steady flow of locals and tourists, many of whom embraced the season with hot tea, street-side food, and shared bonfire moments.
According to weather officials, the cold wave is likely to persist in the coming days, with night temperatures expected to remain around the freezing point.
The onset of harsher winter conditions marks the build-up to the region’s chilliest phase — the 40-day “Chillai Kalan,” beginning later this month.
Residents have been advised to take necessary precautions and ensure proper heating arrangements as temperatures continue to fall.
