Seven Srinagar, Dec 19:Air traffic at Srinagar International Airport was severely disrupted on Thursday as dense fog and poor visibility led to the cancellation of seven scheduled flights, officials said.
The cancellations affected both domestic and low-cost carriers, leaving several passengers stranded at the airport. Authorities advised travellers to reconfirm their flight status before heading to the airport amid continuing adverse weather conditions.
Airport officials said that persistent low visibility, especially during the morning and afternoon hours, made it unsafe for aircraft operations.
As a result, multiple inbound and outbound flights were cancelled after runway visibility dropped below the permissible operational limits.
Among the affected flights were Air India’s Delhi-bound services AI-3423 and AI-1799. IndiGo cancelled flights 6E-6164 and 6E-2044 operating on the Amritsar and Delhi routes, respectively. SpiceJet’s Delhi-bound flights SG-661 and SG-180 were also cancelled, along with IndiGo flight 6E-6961 scheduled to operate to Kolkata.
Airport management emphasized that passenger safety remains the top priority and stated that flight operations will resume once weather conditions improve. Meanwhile, passengers reported long queues at airline counters as they sought rebooking, refunds, and updated information.Authorities have advised travellers to stay in touch with their respective airlines for the latest updates and alternative arrangements, as further delays or cancellations cannot be ruled out if foggy conditions persist into the evening.
