New Delhi, Feb 8: The much-anticipated India–Pakistan encounter of T20 World Cup 2026 is almost certain to be staged on February 15, with meetings currently underway to finalise arrangements.Sources in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed to IANS about the ongoing meeting, and there is a high chance of the match being staged in Colombo.

“Meetings are underway, and there is a 99% chance the India–Pakistan match will take place on February 15,” sources in the Pakistan Cricket Board told IANS.Earlier, PCB said they will not play India in their scheduled Men’s T20 World Cup match in Colombo on February 15, after their government approved the Men in Green’s participation in the World Cup on the condition that they will not play the match against India in solidarity with Bangladesh. In response to Pakistan’s announcement, the ICC issued a strong statement, urging the PCB to seek a mutually acceptable resolution and warning that selective participation undermines the principles of global competition.

“While the ICC awaits official communication from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), this position of selective participation is difficult to reconcile with the fundamental premise of a global sporting event where all qualified teams are expected to compete on equal terms per the event schedule,” the ICC said.”The ICC hopes that the PCB will consider the significant and long-term implications for cricket in its own country, as this is likely to impact the global cricket ecosystem, which it is itself a member and beneficiary of,” it added.

Pakistan made a tense start to their T20 World Cup 2026 campaign as they overcame a scare against the Netherlands to clinch a three-wicket victory in the opening match of the tournament here at the Sinhalese Sports Club. For India, skipper Suryakumar Yadav blasted a majestic unbeaten 84 and seasoned pacer Mohammad Siraj bagged 3-29 coming in as a last-minute replacement as India saved themselves the blushes with a face-saving 29-run victory over the USA.Skipper Suryakumar Yadav led from the front as he scored a half-century in his debut as captain in the T20 World Cup and helped the team post a modest total of 161/9. Siraj took over after that with a two-wicket burst and, with Arshdeep Singh and Axar Patel claiming two wickets each, prevailed over the USA by 29 runs. Siraj claimed 3-29, Arshdeep bagged 2-18, and Axar claimed 2-24 as India restricted the USA to 132/9 in 20 overs at the Wankhede Stadium, struggling to win their first match in Group A.Pakistan is in Group A alongside India, Namibia, the Netherlands and the United States of America (USA). Advocate Zaman Irshad Parray Appeals to Centre for Immediate Rescue of Kashmiri Students, Indians Stranded in Iran>>>

0

Srinagar, January 14, 2026:Advocate Zaman Irshad Parray has appealed to the Union Government to take urgent and concrete steps to ensure the safe evacuation of Kashmiri students and other Indian citizens stranded in Iran, as the security situation in the country continues to worsen.

In a statement issued from his office on Wednesday, Advocate Parray expressed deep concern over the rapidly deteriorating conditions in Iran, which have led several nations to advise their citizens to leave immediately.

The Government of India has also issued advisories urging Indian nationals, including students, to evacuate the country. However, he noted that the ground situation remains extremely challenging, with disruptions in cellular and internet services, suspension of flights, and increasing instability, making it nearly impossible for many Indian citizens—especially Kashmiri students pursuing higher education—to return home on their own.“Protecting the lives and safety of our citizens must be the foremost priority of the Government of India,” Advocate Parray said. “The Centre should actively engage diplomatic channels and deploy the resources of the Indian Embassy in Iran to arrange a well-coordinated evacuation. Parents and families in Kashmir and across the country are deeply anxious about the safety of their children.”Advocate Parray highlighted India’s proven record of conducting successful evacuation operations during international crises and expressed confidence that swift and decisive action could bring all stranded students back safely before the situation escalates further.“Our country has both the capacity and the responsibility to act. Timely intervention will not only save lives but also reassure families that the nation stands firmly with its citizens, wherever they may be,” he added. The Office of Advocate Zaman Irshad Parray has urged the Ministry of External Affairs, the Prime Minister’s Office, and other concerned authorities to treat the issue as a humanitarian emergency and initiate immediate measures, including international coordination if necessary, to secure the safe return of Indian nationals from Iran.

The Farce of Protests in Kulgam: When Elected Representatives Agitate Against Their Own AlliancesFrom the Office of Advocate Zaman Irshad Parray>>>

0

Kulgam, January 10, 2026:In a bizarre display of political theatre, the Communist Party of India (Marxist), CPI(M) Kulgam, on Saturday staged a protest against escalating power tariffs and erratic electricity supply—issues that have plagued the region for decades. While these grievances are undeniably genuine and continue to affect the daily lives of the people, the protest raises serious and uncomfortable questions about democratic accountability, governance, and the very purpose of elections in Jammu and Kashmir.

What is the value of contesting and winning elections if alliance partners must take to the streets to demand basic accountability from the very government they support?

Videos from the demonstration at Laroo Adda showed party leaders and workers marching and raising slogans against the Power Development Department.

However, beneath this spectacle lies a deeper irony: elected representatives protesting against a government they helped form and continue to sustain.

This contradiction exposes a troubling reality where governance appears reduced to performance rather than responsibility.CPI(M), which has represented Kulgam for over three decades, now finds its leaders on the streets demanding a rollback of power tariff hikes and an end to frequent electricity outages.

This inevitably raises a fundamental question: where does self-accountability begin for those who have held power for so long?

What, then, is the purpose—or even the legitimacy—of holding positions in the Legislative Assembly or District Development Councils (DDCs) if basic infrastructure such as reliable electricity remains unresolved after decades of representation?

Are elected leaders meant to legislate, implement policy, and ensure service delivery, or merely to protest for political visibility?

When parties in power—such as CPI(M), allied with the National Conference (NC)—assume the role of opposition on the streets, the lines of democratic responsibility blur dangerously.

If ruling allies behave like protesters, what role remains for the actual opposition?

This confusion weakens democratic discourse and transforms governance into a spectacle, where accountability is sought through rallies rather than legislative action.

At the state level, the NC perpetuates this charade, while at the district level in Kulgam, CPI(M) continues the same performance. The people of Kulgam deserve clear and honest answers. What accountability do long-term representatives bear for the persistent lack of basic amenities? After five or six terms in power, why are residents still forced to protest for electricity, roads, and essential services?

This recurring cycle of electoral victories followed by performative outrage steadily erodes public trust and calls into question the very essence of electoral democracy. We call upon all stakeholders, including the Power Development Department and the Omar Abdullah–led, CPI(M)-supported government, to address these issues with seriousness and substance—not through hollow alliances and symbolic protests. The people of Jammu and Kashmir demand real governance, tangible results, and honest accountability—not endless demonstrations by those elected to prevent them.

Urgent Call for Road Repairs in Kulgam District Amid Impending Winter Hazards>>>

0

Kulgam,January 5, 2026:
Advocate Zaman Irshad Parray on Monday issued a strong appeal to the district administration and concerned departments to urgently address the deteriorating condition of roads in Bongam and adjoining areas of Kulgam district, warning that continued neglect could lead to serious accidents, especially with winter setting in.
Highlighting the poor condition of the vital shortcut road connecting Bongam to the main Kulgam market via Lumm, Advocate Irshad said the route has been reduced to a dangerously uneven stretch, virtually resembling a trekking path rather than a motorable road.

The road, which is widely used by locals, students, traders, and daily commuters, has suffered extensive structural damage, making travel risky and potentially fatal once snowfall begins.

“This shortcut is essential for daily movement, but its current condition has turned it into a hazard zone,” Advocate Irshad said.

“Despite repeatedly bringing the matter to the notice of the Deputy Commissioner Kulgam, the Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department, and the Executive Officer of Kulgam Municipality over the past year, no concrete action has been taken.

The response has largely been limited to assurances without implementation.”
He further pointed out that the issue is not confined to the Bongam-Lumm route alone. Several other areas, including Chambgund, Chattabal Bypass, and various village link roads, are facing similar neglect. Residents have long complained about inadequate drainage, lack of proper macadamization, and substandard patchwork repairs that fail to withstand seasonal weather changes.
According to Advocate Irshad, multiple petitions and representations submitted during 2025 regarding the Bongam-Market link road and other internal roads have gone unanswered.

The situation worsens during the monsoon and is now expected to deteriorate further as winter approaches.

With snowfall anticipated soon, these damaged roads may become impassable, potentially isolating communities and posing serious risks during medical or other emergencies, particularly for elderly residents and schoolchildren.
“As winter ap

proaches, continued inaction could lead to avoidable tragedies,” he warned. “Snow and ice will turn these already damaged roads into life-threatening routes. We demand immediate ground surveys, proper repairs, and macadamization under schemes such as PMGSY to ensure public safety.”
Advocate Zaman Irshad also urged the public to raise their voices collectively and appealed to media organizations to highlight the issue. He stated that if no prompt action is taken within the next week, he would escalate the matter to higher authorities, including the office of the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir.
