Srinagar, October 17:In a historic development for Jammu and Kashmir’s trade and transport sector, the first-ever freight train carrying industrial salt from Gujarat successfully reached Kashmir today. The consignment marks a major milestone in boosting industrial connectivity between the Union Territory and the rest of India.

According to officials, the freight train—loaded with industrial salt used in various manufacturing and processing industries—arrived at the newly operationalized railway freight terminal in the Valley.

This is the first time such a bulk consignment has been transported directly by rail from western India to Kashmir, significantly reducing travel time and transportation costs.

Authorities said the development is part of the ongoing efforts to strengthen the railway freight network in the region and promote industrial growth. The direct rail connectivity is expected to ease the supply chain for several local industries that rely on raw materials from other states.

Officials added that more such freight services are planned in the coming days, carrying essential industrial and construction materials to meet the growing demand in Kashmir.

The successful arrival of the train symbolizes a new era of economic integration and infrastructure advancement, paving the way for enhanced trade, employment, and industrial expansion in Jammu and Kashmir.
